For Spring 2009, PUMA and Japanese designer Mihara Yasuhiro brought another bold entry to the MY footwear series: the MY-41. The design stood out for its red, white and blue color combination, matching laces and especially its unusual midsole, which appears to melt or drip around the bottom of the shoe.
The MY-41 continued the creative direction of the PUMA by Mihara partnership, mixing sportswear with a more experimental fashion sensibility. Rather than relying on a conventional flat sole, the sculpted, layered rubber gave the sneaker a distinctive profile and made the outsole a major part of the design.
When the model was previewed in February 2009, contemporary coverage highlighted the red, blue and white palette and noted that the shoe was expected to reach select PUMA retailers in the following weeks. The Spring 2009 MY-41 was one of the more eye-catching releases from the collaboration.
Archive image note: The three original photographs attached to this 2009 post no longer load from their former host. We recovered a genuine MY-41 reference photograph and added it to the Media Library, but it shows a different colorway. It is clearly labeled as a reference image, not the original red, white and blue pair.
