2011 Consortium – ADIDAS

In October 2011, adidas Originals announced the return of its Consortium line with a restrained collection built around a clean, mostly white palette. The project was presented as a fresh start for the premium line and became known as the “White Vapour” or “Tabula Rasa” collection.

The five silhouettes in the collection were the Baltic Cup, Decade, Match Play, Pro Shell and ZX 500. Rather than relying on loud colors or prominent branding, the designs put the focus on materials and construction, including premium suede, nubuck and leather details, with subtle branding and waxed laces.

The collection was scheduled to reach select retailers on November 26, 2011. Seen today, the release is an interesting snapshot of adidas Originals’ early-2010s approach to archival silhouettes and understated, boutique-focused sneaker releases.

60th Anniversary Diamond Superstar – Adidas

adidas Originals celebrated 60 years of the Three Stripes with the Diamond Superstar, a luxury shell-toe sneaker featuring diamonds, Swarovski crystal lace locks and crystal lace aglets.

adidas Originals marked its 60th anniversary in 2009 with special releases celebrating the brand’s heritage and iconic Three Stripes. Among the standout pieces was the Diamond Superstar: a luxury take on the classic shell-toe silhouette that brought fine jewelry details to a familiar sneaker.

The anniversary edition kept the recognizable Superstar profile but turned up the shine. Six diamonds were set into the side stripes, while Swarovski crystals added sparkle to the lace locks and lace aglets. Those details transformed an everyday streetwear classic into a collector’s showpiece.

According to the original 2009 coverage, the Diamond Superstar was priced at HK$6,999 in Hong Kong, approximately US$903 at the time. It was an extravagant way for adidas to celebrate six decades of the Three Stripes and the lasting influence of the Superstar.

The release captured the spirit of the era’s luxury sneaker moment: taking a recognizable classic and elevating it with precious materials, crystal embellishments and limited-edition appeal. More than a regular pair of shell toes, the Diamond Superstar was designed to make a statement.
